Care & Cleaning

With the right care, our fabrics will stay looking good for a long time. Here you’ll find some practical tips and recommendations.

Thanks to the exclusive use of performance fibres developed specifically for Rohleder, our textiles offer excellent care and cleaning properties – all without the use of chemical additives.

Long-lasting durability through proper care

High-quality upholstery fabrics deserve the right care. Our Q2 fabrics are designed not only to be exceptionally durable, but also to be easy to care for in everyday use.

How to remove stains from Q2 branded fabrics:

Greasy stains

  • Ketchup
  • Mustard
  • Red wine
  • Beer
  • Condensed milk
  • Chocolate

Greasy stains can be removed with standard detergents (Rei, Pril, Persil etc.).

  1. Blot fresh stains with a clean cloth. Soak dried stains, then blot.
  2. Wash out the stain using lukewarm soapy water and a sponge.
  3. Rinse out all soap residues (surfactants) thoroughly with clean water.

Stains caused by solvents

  • Lipstick
  • Nail varnish
  • Ballpoint pen
  • Felt-tip pen
  • Shoe polish
  • Adhesive residue

Stains containing solvents can be removed with standard acetone (available from pharmacies, for example).

  1. Carefully trace around the stain with acetone.
  2. Immediately blot up the dissolved dirt with a clean, absorbent cloth.
  3. Repeat the process if necessary.
  4. The acetone will then evaporate completely.

Colour transfer caused by foreign dyes

  • Jeans
  • Pockets
  • dark cotton fabrics
  • new, unwashed textiles
  • unsuitable duvet or pillow covers
  • other textiles

Stains caused by foreign dyes can be removed with a solution of 1 part bleach to 10 parts water.

  1. Moisten the stained area with the solution.
  2. The foreign dyes will be broken down after approx. 15–20 minutes.
  3. Absorb the dissolved dye particles with a cloth.
  4. Then rinse out the remaining chlorine salts thoroughly.

Q2: How to look after your fabrics

Our Q2 quality seal guarantees the highest quality to customers worldwide. Rohleder Textiles have excellent care and cleaning properties – all without the use of chemical additives. In general, all stains (except those caused by solvent-based writing instruments) can be easily removed from Q2 fabrics. Try to remove stains immediately after they occur. To do this, use an absorbent cloth and dab the stain.

Removing solvent-based stains

Stains caused by solvent-based products such as nail varnish, lipstick, felt-tip pens, ballpoint pens or shoe polish can usually be effectively removed with acetone. It is important to proceed carefully and methodically to avoid damaging the fabric and prevent the dye from bleeding.

Step 1: Pinpoint the stain

To prevent the loosened dirt from spreading further, first carefully apply acetone around the edge of the stain. This ensures that the cleaning is confined to the affected area and effectively prevents the colour from bleeding.

Tip: It is best to wear gloves, as acetone can severely dry out the skin.

Step 2: Treat and remove the stain

Next, apply a few drops of acetone directly to the stain and carefully blot up the loosened dye with a clean, white, absorbent cloth or kitchen paper. Blot gently without rubbing to avoid damaging the fabric. For stubborn stains, it may help to leave the acetone to work for a short while before dabbing again. Work step by step until the stain becomes noticeably lighter.

Step 3: Repeat the process if necessary

After the first treatment, check carefully to see if any colour or dirt residue is still visible. With stubborn stains, it is normal for several passes to be required. Repeat the cleaning process until no colour changes or residue are visible. Take care to proceed gently and step by step so as not to put too much strain on the material. With each pass, the stain becomes lighter and the result more even, without any edges or unsightly patches forming.

Step 4: Remove any remaining residue

Apply a small amount of acetone to the area you have already cleaned to completely dissolve any remaining paint or dirt. Then remove this by dabbing gently with a clean, white cloth. Work carefully and without applying pressure to avoid damaging the material and to ensure an even cleaning result.

Step 5: Rinse thoroughly and leave to dry

Finally, rinse the treated area thoroughly with plenty of clean water to remove any remaining solvent residue. Ensure that no residue is left behind. Allow the surface to dry completely.
